Se les suele encuadrar en el género del heavy metal, y ha habido subsecuentes debates intentando concretar el género adecuado. Teniendo en cuenta la clasificación de la Enciclopedia del Metal de Metal Archives, se trata de un grupo de groove metal técnico, aunque no es algo que esté demasiado extendido en la escena (se podría decir que Mastodon es el único grupo de groove metal técnico por el momento), descarguen y escuchen bien esta banda es excelente.
